Jarvis Brookfield’s work emerges from a genuine enjoyment of the interplay between colour and form, informed by natural structures, ancient timeless symbols, and the world of visual phenomena.

Equally influenced by movement and perception, he creates paintings that feel alive and responsive to the viewer. This is explored through the considered placement of visual elements and the physical layering of paint, with an emphasis on light, depth, and perception—grounded in a reverence for foundational painting techniques developed during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.

Brookfield is drawn to the pursuit of making works that function as quiet spiritual respites, while also evoking visceral feelings of awe, joy, and wonder. And, at its core, his practice centres on relearning how to enjoy seeing—embracing the idiosyncratic ways in which individuals perceive and experience the world—so that painting can once again become a lived visual experience, held within the eye of the beholder.

Born in Croydon, England, in 1992, Jarvis Brookfield spent his formative years in Derby and studied Fine Art at De Montfort University, Leicester. In 2021, he received the People’s Choice Prize at the Robert Walters UK New Artist of the Year Award and exhibited a collection of paintings at Saatchi Gallery, London. In 2022, he was commissioned by The World Reimagined to create a globe for their nationwide arts education project. Brookfield is currently based in Leicester, England.
